NEW YORK (AP) - The Boss is owning up to a mistake.

In an interview with Sunday's New York Times, Bruce Springsteen says he shouldn't have made a deal with Wal-Mart. This month, the store started exclusively selling a Springsteen greatest hits CD.

Some fans were critical because Springsteen has been a longtime supporter of worker's rights, and Wal-Mart has faced criticism for its labor practices.

Springsteen told the Times that his team didn't vet the issue as closely as he should have, and that he "dropped the ball on it."

Springsteen went on to say: "It was a mistake. Our batting average is usually very good, but we missed that one. Fans will call you on that stuff, as it should be."

Springsteen released his new CD "Working on a Dream" this week and is performing the halftime show at the Super Bowl.

But that new single Working On A Dream has got to be the most pedantic tune he's ever written. I can't stand it.:o

Actually, I haven't really liked his writing for awhile so it's not a surprise that his new stuff isn't great.

And rightfully so. This dude doesn't do anything without scrutinizing due diligence. He is so protective of his image it isn't funny. For him to say oops, I made a mistake is utter bullshit as he was aware of what was involved from day one and to be certain, this didn't happen overnight with a stroke of a pen. It would have been months and months of negotiating and seeing as the deal is probably a one way, pay up front, for the Boss to shit on Walmart AFTER the disc was delivered and AFTER he cashed the check is disingenuous at best.

I cry foul on this one. Shame on the Boss. Respect is earned and can be easily lost. He lost big time on this.

Further, as he will be performing at the Super Bowl, he had no option but to do press on it and the questions were sure to come up. He's being paid stinking amounts of money for the 1/2time show and inside word is that he had to edit many of the songs being performed to coincide with NFL requirements, something the OLD boss would never have done. This being the dude who'd play all fucking night long for his fans.

In short, it sullys the legacy he built and makes it all look like an act. No different than a Madonna whoring herself out to the press for her new disc with Timbaland and subsequent duet with Timberlake.

He should have just kept his mouth shut and ignored the question cause now it's blown up to the point of ubiquity and now EVERYONE knows the score...
